Cascade Christian 80
Douglas 29
Austin Maurer had a triumphant return to the hardwood Saturday night in the Far West League tournament championship game. Maurer scored early and often as he erased any thought of being rusty after his lengthy time away due to an elbow injury he suffered at Coquille on January 20.
Maurer and Drew Hall set the tone for the Challengers as they scored eight points apiece in the first quarter to fuel a 20-12 lead after eight minutes. It was more of the same for Maurer and Cascade Christian in the second, as the 7-footer scored eight more points and the Challenger defense stiffened, holding Douglas to only five points in the frame making it a 34-17 game at the half. Maurer and Hall again paced the Challengers in the third scoring nine and eight points respectively and putting the game away entering the fourth quarter with a 59-23 lead. The fourth quarter saw the three-ball come to life for Cascade Christian as Kellan Kleker and Eli Bryant knocked down two apiece and sophomore Bryley Richardson added a triple of his own to put the Trojans away 80-29.
Austin Maurer finished with 27 points, eight rebounds and tortured Douglas shooters with five blocked shots. Drew Hall stuffed the stat sheet again with 18 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals. Payton Maurer had a nice game with nine points, four rebounds and four assists and Eli Bryant chipped in with eight points.
