The #1 ranked Springfield Millers came to town sporting a 13-4 overall record and sitting in first place in the Midwestern League with a 5-0 record. The Eagles of Eagle Point also came into the game with an over all record of 13-4, sitting tied for 3rd place in the Midwestern Conference.
The Eagles gave Springfield all they could handle jumping out to a 13-5 lead in the first quarter before the Millers finished the frame in a fury on a 7-0 run. At the end of the first break EP lead 17-16.
In the second frame the Millers kept up the intensity with more full court pressure and took the lead at the 3:37 mark 22-21. They would out score the Eagle 11-4 during this stretch. At the halftime break Springfield 32 Eagle Point 24.
The two teams would come out in the third quarter and trade baskets thought out the quarter. The freshman guard for Eagle Point, Jill Garlitz would put her team on her shoulders and chip in 6 followed by Kady Lindstroms 5 points to keep pace with the fast running Millers. The largest lead of the game would be 12 by Springfield, but this was short lived as Eagle Point slowly started to hang around and chip away at the lead.
Eagle Point made a conscience effort to slow down Danajea Romero Ansam in the second half and they were able to do that limiting her to 6 points in the second half and Darissa Romero Asam was limited to 3 points. “Morgan Dole was assigned the tough task of stopping Danaja and she ,did a nice job especially in the 2nd half.
The game slowed down late in the 4th qtr so that was too our advantage”. Both Morgan Dole who had lead the Eagles in Scoring for the past several games had to focus her attention on Danajea Amero Ansam (a 1st team all-selection last year), They both defended one another throughout the game. A tough task for both players.
Springfield was able to spread out the scoring enough in the 3rd and 4th qtr. as well as slowing the game down enough to out last the Eagles. Eagle Point outscored Springfield 30-27 in the second half.
The Eagles had three players in double figures: Jill Garlitz had 17 points, Kady Ledbetter followed with 17 and Thianna Deng-Gomez had 14.Rounding out the scoring Kady LIndstrom and Morgan Dole finished with 5 along with Alondra Cabrera 1.
