Tony Champion, North Medford’s head wrestling coach talks about the ranking and what he sees as the team’s chances of bringing home a state title:
The girls team has a real opportunity to bring home a team title. We are in the same region as Thurston who is ranked #1. We have two wrestlers ranked #1 that are still undefeated; senior Estella Gutches 135 lbs, 19-0 and sophomore Sadie Hall 125lbs, 21-0. We have two girls ranked #2; Senior Isabella Prinslow 145lbs, 20-1 and Fresham Skylar Hall 20-1. All four wrestlers have a real opportunity to make the state finals in their individual weight classes. The key for North Medford to make a run at the state title will be how many girls we can get through the regional state qualifying tournament in Thurston on Feb 4th. We have ten girls that have the opportunity to advance.
