For the second year in a row, Southern Oregon University forward Kami Walk garnered NAIA All-America honorable mention when the national office announced postseason awards on Tuesday.
Walk completed her junior season with averages of 14.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals for the Raiders, who posted a 24-8 record and advanced to the NAIA Championships Round of 32.
A season ago, Walk became the 17th player in SOU women’s basketball history to earn mention or land on an All-America team. The 5-foot-11 Eugene product did it again by carrying the Raiders down the stretch, posting nine of her 10 double-doubles during the second half of the season. In four postseason games, she averaged 17 points and 8.8 rebounds while shooting 54.5 percent from the field (24-of-44) and 47.6 percent from 3 (10-of-21).
She also dropped in the game-winning bucket with a couple of seconds left in the Raiders’ Round of 64 game against Wayland Baptist (Texas), completing a 29-point comeback.
During conference play, Walk was the CCC’s only player to rank among the top-six in both points and rebounds. She was top-15 in shooting percentages from the field, the 3-point line and the free-throw line, too.
Walk became the 20th member of SOU’s 1,000-point club in February. She’ll enter her senior season No. 12 in rebounds (659) and No. 14 in points (1,164) on the Raiders’ all-time lists.
