Warriors, Beacons top SOU

The Southern Oregon beach volleyball team’s No. 2 pair, Taylor Jackson and Karina Oliveira, picked up its fourth victory of the season as the Raiders dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Corban and Bushnell on Sunday at the SOU Beach Courts.

Top-ranked Corban swept 5-0 and Bushnell won 4-1 against the Raiders, who went to 2-5 on the season.

Making their home debut, Jackson and Oliveira took down the Beacons’ Madi Trueblood and Roslyn McLellan in straight sets, 21-12 and 21-10. Jackson and Oliveira, who fell to Corban’s Kianna Keeling and Cameron Keeling, 21-14 and 21-11 in the first match of the day, sit at 4-3 overall.

“I feel like we’re continuing to grow as pairs and as a team,” SOU coach Paul Elliott said. “However, we need to be less impatient and allow the game to come to us, and we’ll work on that this week in practice.”

The Warriors improved to 7-2 and the Beacons to 5-3.

The Raiders play again next Friday and Saturday in Eugene, where they’ll face Northwest (Wash.), Corban and Bushnell.
